Rune Masquer Kits

I decided to finally chase down another set of grail kits, the Rune Masquer series by Work Shop Cast. I recall seeing these amazing kits 20 years ago in local hobby shops and wondering where were they from. I found out along the way that Work Shop Cast, Volks and Kaiyodo produced these kits based on the Rune Masquer manga by Yutaka Izubuchi.

Any fellow fans of this series out there? I'm trying to get a copy of each of these model kits, think it'll be a long hard search for them. If anyone knows of any other Rune Masquer kits feel free to let me know!

I've seen many of these designs before, but I always thought they were from Panzer World Galient, which Izubuchi also did designs for. Wave has quite a few kits from that series that are similar to the ones you posted:

And one of my holy grails, this toy:

He also did designs for Dunbine, Escaflowne, and Rahxephon, three other mecha series that have very knight-like and ornate mecha designs. Not to mention his plethora of "real robot" designs like Gundam and Patlabor. This guy is one of the best mecha designers IMO, maybe even moreso than Nagano due to the diversity of his designs.

@Squee Thanks for the heads up, but i'm trying to collect the originals :)

@Zip Yep, the Panzer World Galient designs that Izubuchi did are really cool too. I've always wanted a good rendition of the Snake Soldier.

I'll post up some pictures of the kits which I have in hand, my personal favourite is Ikushima's Nererids ,the presence and execution of the sculpt is exceptional.

There was a recent release of the Rune Masquer manga in a 3 volume full colour set, it has also been announced that Izubuchi will continue the Rune Masquer series too, so I'm hoping for more wonderful designs and resin kits.

DLKY, I'm so glad you posted this. I am not familiar with this series, but I came across the designs and kits while searching for FSS stuff. They are extraordinary. I started to look into buying some of them, but stopped myself. Learning that WSC made these sculpts will probably change my mind. If I win the lottery I'll try to find the originals, but I may only be able to do recasts... which are hard enough to find.

If others are interested, e2046 has two of them in stock: the Knight Masquer (Archer General above), and they must have just released the Horse Knight (Slepnir) because he was still on Pre-Order last week. I'm tempted, but I've spent too much money lately, and the ones I'd like to have are the Tristan (R-002) and Basara (?) General (R-006)

I'll have to look into the manga.

@Zip - Who is that magnificent red beast of a mech? That stare, what an awesome pic.

My holy grail. That is the Tetsu-Kyoujin from the Panzer World Galient OVA's. Roughly 1/60 scale, making it 25 cm tall. That was released years ago as a glorious $250 action figure from Wave and hasn't been reissued since then. The ones that do pop up go for like $600+. There are no resin kits of it from them to my knowledge, other than the more 80's TV design by Kunio Okawara.

Here's some pictures of the Work Shop Cast Nereids sculpted by Ikushima. Its the Rune Masquer kit which I am most in love with, a perfect execution of Izubuchi's design. Take a look at the close up pictures and examine the fine details on the scales, back vents and under-armour.

Congrats, that is an amazing kit. I particularly like it because the head makes me think of the LED Mirage (which is probably my fav mecha). Looking at that detail, the powerful pose and photos of the finished kit I think I have to put it on my list. Exceptional.

Curses! Foiled again. I found this Rune Masquer auction, but the seller only ships to the US. eBay is blocking me from even contacting the seller or bidding on the item. (BTW, if you are interested in this kit take it. I have no easy access.)

This kit is the "Basara (?) General (R-006)" in the pictures up above and one of the 3 RM kits that I want.

Would there be anyone here who lives in the US who could help me either: a) contact the seller to see if s/he will make an exception for me (in Canada) or b) just bid on the auction for me and then ship it to me once it arrives at your home? I would be covering any and all expenses promptly by PayPal.

PM me if you can help. Thanks!

In the end Squee (the awesome and wonderful) helped me get that WSC Rune Masquer kit from eBay.

Spoiler: click to toggle

I also picked up the Wave Panzer World Galient centaur kit (what is his name?). Man it is a big, intimidating kit.

Seeing these images, specifically the ivory looking ones, made me buy this kit. I may just do an ancient/aged ivory paint scheme.

Reviews to come.

The right hand is grabbing the pole slightly higher than the middle of its length. Unlike how you would hold a spear or lance.
Posted Image

This posture is more similar to when using a glaive, like Kan'u is always depicted in this way, grabbing the pole slightly on the front.
Posted ImagePosted Image

I realized the Souls games have been using some pole weapons wrong, like the scythe and glaive.
When you equip it on the right hand, and then two handing it, the left hand is ahead of the right hand. This is a stance for thrusting a spear.
Posted Image

For cutting, the right hand is higher(in front); for thrusting, the right hand is behind the left.

It makes zero sense on the Engage but it evoke the same imagery. It is reversed on the Volks Sleipnir
